Timothy O’Sullivan: The King Survey Photographs

From 1867 to 1873, Timothy O'Sullivan was the official photographer for the U.S. Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel, better known as the King Survey. His images were among the first to show the barren landscapes, prehistoric ruins, and Native Americans of the Southwest. Sixty photographs from the collection are currently on display at the Art Institue of Chicago. Malcolm Grear Designers designed the accompanying catalogue. ...continue reading

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Celebrates Brilliant American Photographer, Homer Page

On Saturday February 14, the exhibition entitled “The Photographs of Homer Page: The Guggenheim Year, New York, 1949-50” opens at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Homer Page used a 1949-50 Guggenheim fellowship to photograph New York City. Page captured this specific time and place with his unique artistic vision that was both “gritty and lyrical.”
