This year the Unites States Institute of Peace (USIP) is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary. The USIP works to prevent and end conflicts all around the world by providing professional expertise and training while promoting stability through diplomacy and peace building.
Coinciding with their 25th anniversary is the construction of their new building at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street in Washington, DC. Designed by architects Moshe Safdie and Associates, the new USIP headquarter’s distinct and symbolic contours will become a recognizable part of the capital’s skyline. The five-story, 150,000 square-foot building will house the USIP’s offices for program and administrative staff and research fellows, a library and archives, a state-of-the-art conference center, and their Public Education Center.
Malcolm Grear Designers developed the visual identity program for the United States Institute of Peace. Central to the identity system is the symbol (shown above) which incorporates several visual references into one memorable brand image. In the symbol there is the oak tree (representing shelter and stability), the dove and olive branch (well known symbols of peace); the olive branch has seven leaves (for the seven continents) and the surrounding globe (symbolizing the world which we all share) ties the image together.
