In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, guest speakers James D. Watson and Edward O. Wilson will open this year’s lecture series. The lecture is on September 9 at 5:30pm in the University’s Memorial Hall. More information can be obtained through Harvard University’s website.
James D. Watson is Nobel Prize winner for his discovery in understanding the structure of DNA. E.O. Wilson is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner celebrated for his studies in biodiversity and for his love of entomology.
Also, NPR recently aired a story about a meeting between E.O. Wilson and Will Wright, an expert in the field of video game design. Wright is the creator of the wildly popular game called The Sims in which players control the lives of a family. Wright recently created SimAnt, a game in which players must understand the rules of society-building in order to create a well structured and surviving colony of ants.
Devoting a large part of his career to studying ants, E.O. Wilson is considered to be an expert on the lives of social insects. Wilson and Bert Holldobler won the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction for their book titled “The Ants.”
