On Saturday May 1, the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame will add eight inductees to its list of influential Rhode Islanders in ceremonies to be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston.

The honor goes to “any individual who has brought credit to Rhode Island, brought Rhode Island into prominence and contributed to the history and heritage of the state,” provided that they have either been born, lived, studied, or worked in Rhode Island for a significant amount of time.

Joining the ranks of 647 other influential Rhode Islanders, including such notables as Roger Williams, Gilbert Stuart, and Samuel Slater, will be Malcolm Grear, nationally prominent graphic designer, Professor Emeritus at the Rhode Island School of Design, and CEO of Malcolm Grear Designers. For over fifty years, Grear has generated some of the more prominent visual identity systems in the nation. His clients have included the 1996 Centennial Atlanta Olympic Games, the Veterans Administration, U.S. Health and Human Services, The Guggenheim Museum, Presbyterian Church USA, Vanderbilt University, and Mayo Clinic. Local clients include Lifespan, Brown University, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Rhode Island Department of Health, and Salve Regina University.

The Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame is currently located at the Rhode Island Historical Society on Benelovent Street in Providence and is expected to move to the as-yet-unopened Heritage Harbor Museum, for which Grear also designed the identity.
