The School of Visual Arts in New York City recently chose to use the Visual Magnetics Graphic System™ in the construction of a new lab supporting SVA's masters program in Design for Social Innovation. The master's program is aimed at designers who are interested in making a significant social contribution and change in the world. Visual Magnetic materials have proven to be successful in the retail industry and are now showing that they can be used in private and domestic environments like design firms, museums, and higher institutions.
The new lab at The School of Visual Arts incorporates a number of Visual Magnetic materials such as a 70 foot long photo installation by artist Simo Neri printed on VM-POLYeight, a print film made from recycled plastics. The space will be fitted with 2700 square feet of VM-ActiveWall magnetic primer which will provide a surface to attach a wide range of Visual Magnetics MagnaMedia printable substrates. In addition, the lab will include 1650 square feet of VM-DRYerase and 475 square feet of VM-Chalkboard.
Students and teachers will be able to print on the MagnaMedia substrates any graphic, poster, mural, or photographs and position or re-position effortlessly on the walls. Ideas and notes can be freely disseminated on the dry erase and chalkboard surfaces. Graphic elements can be easily swapped and changed on a whim or simply left for a duration of time. This combination of materials in an environment is what Visual Magnetics dubs Dynamic Spaces™.
“This program was developed to help new leaders emerge who can make a real impact in the world. It is the first of its kind and will pioneer new approaches. I cannot imagine a better partner to help make this space innovative than Visual Magnetics,” said Cheryl Heller, founding Chair of Design for Social Innovation at SVA. “Visual Magnetics provided exactly what we were looking for - versatile, high-quality media that can be layered and replaced almost effortlessly to create a dynamic workspace that’s as exciting as the program itself.”
