The Community Preparatory School has been recognized by the Providence Business News in its 12th Annual Business Excellence Awards for “Excellence at a Not-for-Profit”. Eight other organizations and individuals will also be honored for overall business excellence, leadership and community service at an awards ceremony on November 14th at the downtown Providence Marriott.
Founded in 1984 by Dan Corley and Robert W. Hahn, the Community Preparatory School is a dedicated to providing low-income and minority children of Rhode Island an opportunity to succeed in high school college preparatory programs. Nearly all of the school's students receive substantial tuition assistance. Eighty percent of the school's budget is funding by donations; leaving only twenty percent for tuition costs. Most other independent and private school's generate eighty to ninety percent of their budgets from tuition. Utilizing a small student teacher ratio, the school encourages students to become community leaders. Eighty-three percent of college age alumni attend a higher education institute.
Malcolm Grear Designers has a long history with Community Preparatory School starting with designing the school’s visual identity and numerous print publications. Malcolm Grear is also a board member for the school.
