We are delighted that the first recipient of the Rhode Island School of Design Malcolm Grear Endowed Scholarship Fund has been announced.

Maia Conlon, class of 2015 Graphic Design, from North Dighton, MA was awarded the scholarship at a special luncheon at RISD on September 11, 2014.

Malcolm was honored to meet Maia and was touched by the introductory remarks by Nancy Skolos, RISD Dean of Architecture and Design (interim), and Bill Newkirk GD ’68, RISD Professor Foundation Studies, and co-chair of the Scholarship Fund. Jeff Held GD ’74 and former designer at Malcolm Grear Designers also gave a personal tribute.

The Malcolm Grear Endowed Scholarship was established in recognition of Malcolm's impact on design education at RISD, where he taught from 1960–1996. Each year, the fund will provide financial assistance to a junior or senior majoring in Graphic Design.

The studio congratulates Maia and is so proud of this honor given to Malcolm, knowing that future graphic designers will benefit from the generosity of fellow alumni, friends, and clients.
