Malcolm Grear Receives RISDs Professor Emeritus Medallion

Yesterday, the Rhode Island School of Design awarded 50 retired professors the first ever Professor Emeriti Medallion. Malcolm Grear, who taught at RISD for over 35 years, was honored along with other distinguished professors including Lorraine Howes, Richard Merkin, Jack Pripp, Dean Richardson, Friedrich St. Florian, and Marc Harrison (posthumously). The term “retired professor” is not an entirely accurate description of Malcolm Grear, who regularly invites classes to his design studio (Malcolm Grear Designers), occasionally teaches graduate courses at RISD, and maintains a busy national/international lecture schedule. RISD President, Roger Mandle, who is leaving this leading art and design institution after 15 celebrated years, also received an honorary Emeritus Medallion.
