The Anthony Quinn Foundation is exhibiting work by the late actor and artist at the Narrows Center for the Arts. More than 90 objects from the artist's enormous body of artwork have been collected to compose this exhibition titled Duende: The Art of Anthony Quinn.
Best known for his acting in films, Quinn was also a passionate artist and art collector. Quinn's wife, Katherine saw the artist's life and work influenced by small bursts of inspiration that led Quinn to create beauty in a variety of mediums: paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and acting. Duende is a term that Frederico García Lorca refers to as “a momentary burst of inspiration, the blush of all that is truly alive, all that the performer is creating in a certain moment.”
The exhibition will on display from October 26 through December 29. A opening reception will be held on November 8 from 7-9 pm. The gallery is open Wednesday – Saturday from 12-5 pm and by appointment. Admission to the gallery is free. For more information, visit the Narrows Center for the Arts' website.
Malcolm Grear Designers' long relationship with Katherine Quinn and the Anthony Quinn Foundation began when she asked us to design the retrospective book Anthony Quinn: A Lifetime of Creating and Collecting Art, a two hundred and twenty-eight page book available in two editions. The studio also designed the visual identity for the foundation and numerous posters, catalogues, invitations, and awards.
