This weekend kicks off the 14th annual Pawtucket Arts Festival, a late summer celebration of artistic, culinary, and musical talent. The festival will include an ongoing film festival, theatrical performances by the Gamm Theatre, a photograph contest, numerous musical performances, and the wildly popular Chinese Dragonboat Races and Taiwan Day Festival. For the complete listing of events, visit the website for the Pawtucket Arts Festival. The festival continues until the end of September.
For the fifth year in a row, the City of Pawtucket asked Malcolm Grear Designers to design a limited edition print/poster in honor of the event. This year's poster is a watercolor and gouache painting by C.C. Wolf titled “Transformation.” The painting depicts the construction of the new interstate bridge amidst a cityscape of Pawtucket.
Previous artists and their works have been an ink drawing by Alan Metnick titled “Mill Buildings,” Matt Kierstead's photograph titled “City Interior,” a painting by artist Penelope Manzella, titled "Summer Along the Blackstone," and a painting by Gretchen Dow Simpson, titled “Hope.” The prints, signed and numbered by the artists, were printed by IOLabs on archival fine art paper.
