Communication Arts has selected the Colby College Museum of Art web site as it's Web Pick of the Day.
Malcolm Grear Designers recently developed the site's Collection Search interface, allowing visitors to search and view over 6000 works from the Museum's permanent collection. The clean and intuitive design provides multiple views of the objects including the ability to display images full-screen. Users can easily zoom and pan around an artwork, giving unprecedented access to students and the general public. For example, one can observe the finest detail of a Whistler etching or appreciate the subtle brushstrokes in an Alex Katz painting.
The new web site design is part of a phased rebranding process. In 2007 Malcolm Grear Designers first developed the Museum's new visual identity system. Helping to establish the brand's new visual attitude, we designed brochures and visitor guides, signs, and the new web site. The site was designed to showcase the Museum's outstanding permanent collection. The site also shows the relationship between it's collections, educaton opportunities, and public programs. For the Museum's 50th year, 2009, we developed their 50th Anniversary logotype, invitations, ads, as well as numerous gift items for their museum shop.
