On Monday, Brown University unveiled the latest incarnation of the school mascot in the form of a ten foot high bronze sculpture of a bear. Sculpted by Nicholas Biddy from Great Britain, the statue which is titled “Indomitable” was lowered into place by a crane and rests on a four foot high platform at the edge of the Ittleson Quadrangle. The statue was commissioned by the Public Art Committee of Brown University with support from Jonathan Nelson and Anthony Ittleson.
Biddy will give a public lecture on his artistic process on Thursday, October 31. A formal dedication will be held on November 2 with Brown President Christina Paxson. Brown University's David Winton Bell Gallery commissioned Malcolm Grear Designers to design the dedication plaque for the sculpture.
