AQF is proud to present the 2017 Anthony Quinn Foundation Award to Lin-Manuel Miranda. Mr. Miranda's creative talents cover a wide range of artistic disciplines—including actor, playwright and composer, best known for creating and starring in the Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights.
Mr. Miranda is a strong believer in the importance of arts education and in a recent interview with CBS This Morning he said "I think [the arts] saved my life…it pointed me in a direction. I think my grades were good, because I wanted to be allowed to be in the school play every year. The values you learn when you’re involved in creative endeavors in school apply to the rest of your life."
The Anthony Quinn Foundation Award was established in 2015 on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Academy Award-winning actor and life-long artist Anthony Quinn. The award was established in appreciation of Anthony Quinn’s contributions to the arts as an actor in more than 150 films, and as a talented sculptor and painter whose work continues to inspire audiences in the United States and abroad.
Recipients are nominated by members of the Anthony Quinn Foundation Board of Directors for their dedication to the organization’s mission and belief that art, in all its forms, is essential to learning and the enrichment of the mind. They embody the artistic legacy of Anthony Quinn and inspire the next generation of artists to overcome challenges and inspire confidence in their own creative potential.
Malcolm Grear Designers designed the invitation, program, and promotional pieces for the award presentation event. The studio also designed the visual identity for the foundation and numerous posters, catalogues, invitations, and awards.
