The Fessenden School campus, located in West Newton, MA, is experiencing a complete makeover. Along with several improvements to the school’s facilities, their new campus wayfinding system, designed by Malcolm Grear Designers, is nearing completion. In addition to providing clear directional information, the sign system has transformed the feeling on campus — giving students, staff, families, and visitors a sense of enthusiasm and pride in the Fessenden experience. From the large stone main entrance sign, to the athletics entrance, wayfinding signs, campus map kiosks, parking and traffic safety signs, the school’s brand is communicated through the careful arrangement of color, typography, proportion, and materials. Entrances to Fessenden’s new athletic fields are graced by donor recognition plaques built into stone pillars, also designed by Malcolm Grear Designers.
Malcolm Grear Designers is currently designing the interior signs and donor recognition program for Fessenden’s new Center for Innovation which is slated to open in September. This new innovation lab, by CBT Architects, will feature flexible makerspaces, 3-D printing and prototyping spaces, a collaboration/meeting room and a “testing zone” courtyard/garden.
